Yesterday we started talking about coins. We are leaning about pennies and nickels. To help us remember some facts about pennies we learned this new poem!

Penny penny
Easily spent
Copper brown
And worth one cent!

Since we have learned all the letters of the alphabet (Yayyy!) we are moving onto letter blends - two letters that make a different sound when they are together in a word. This week we have been learning the sound that /sh/ makes. Today we practiced the tongue twister 'She Sells Seashells' and highlighted all the /sh/ we could find!

She sells seashells by the seashore.
The shells she sells are surely seashells.
So if she sells shells on the seashore.
I'm sure she sells seashore sells.

We decided that it was too nice to stay inside this week, so we went out on the playground to work on our sight words by playing a version of 'Red Rover, Red Rover' and baseball! :) Make sure you ask your child about these games...they are really simple to play at home and work on word recognition!

Yesterday our friends from the food bank came to collect all the non-perishable items we collected for the 100th day of school. All together the three kindergarten classes collected 197 items! :) We spent the afternoon sorting the goods into piles of vegetables, soups, fruits, etc. and learning all about how the food bank works!
